Okay, so the cover of this has caused a bit of a stir. As a homage to June Imray – The Torry Quine, we found the exact same spot at the Torry Battery and (at great personal embarrassment) secured a pretty similar outfit to recreate her iconic LP Cover of 1976. The album itself is not in any way a musical nod to the legendary North-East entertainer and for those seeking a bit of the saucy ‘The Quine who does the strip at Inverurie’, you may be disappointed. However, it is a typically excellent collection of songs where Buchan has utilised a host of musically talented friends to create something very unique. There are guest vocalist on every track bar one, including Steven Milne (Little Kicks), Iona Fyfe (nominee for Scots Singer of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards and finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017), Guy Capecelatro III (Burst & Bloom Records) and Brendon Massei (Viking Moses) and Chemical Callum (Tryptamines – winner of Independent Music Award (IMAs) in New York, 2016). It’s a cracker! The album will be released on all digital platforms, CD and vinyl with a release date being announced soon.
Well, I’ve never been one for remixes but this is terrific. It’s the Autumn Hang take on Different Face from the latest Best Girl Athlete album. There is another track on it it’s was soon so keep yer luggies open. Listen here or below:
Any aspiring French horn players out there? I always thought the French Horn was a 1970’s European adult movie…but no, it’s a magnificent instrument that can be found on a host of classical and contemporary music. From Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 to The Rolling Stones, ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ and The Beach Boys, ‘God Only Knows’. If this is of interest, get in touch with North East of Scotland Music School at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01224 649685.
New Best Girl Athlete single premiere of ‘Lucy’ with previously unreleased B-side, ‘Frayed’, written by Fitlike friend Guy Capecelatro III and is one of the most poignant songs I have heard, it really is achingly beautiful. . Thanks to Mahogany for the premiere. Stream or buy here.
“…filled with twinkling piano melodies and Katie’s heart-wrenchingly fragile vocals, but is no less beautiful in all its melancholic majesty.”
Just a wee note of where you can scoop a copy of the new Best Girl Athlete album on vinyl. Of course, you can simply order it from our Bandcamp page, where it will be delivered with loving care and with the scent of brut, but I know that some of you ache for the whole record shop experience. Therefore, for your pleasure, you can visit any of the following establishments to pick up a copy from a disgruntled employee, with an extensive knowledge of Morrissey and who will try and sell you the latest Prefab Sprout album, whilst muttering about Indie not being dead. I jest of course…long live vinyl and long live the record shop!!!!

Trust me, the man who also brings you Tryptamines does not rest. His passion and enthusiasm for music and art is unwavering. Luckily for you flesh-lumps, he’s decided to give away his latest album as a free download. Some really beautiful stuff on this, check it out at his Soundcloud page here. This is the first chronicle of his seven piece opus “The crazy chronicles of Chemical Callum” and in his own words, “it sure is rather out there”.
