Really rather pleased to be able to offer the first Fitlike Records sampler for free from our Bandcamp page here. There might be a few familiar names but also some you may never heard of before so well worth checking out. One track i’m affa pleased about is Foul Friday. We asked Kitchen Cynics to create music around a sample of a playful old song about an Aberdeen character sung by Aberdeen political activist Bob Cooney. Thanks to Topic Records for the use of the Foul Friday sample.
Music, Visuals, Readings and Comedy – An evening of Doric entertainment co-hosted with Robert Gordon University and featuring Scott Ironside, Kitchen Cynics, Barry Snow, Death Let Her and Chemical Callum.
This is a fairly unique event, held in Garthdee House which is located within the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture on the RGU Garthdee campus. This is not a seated event (although seating can be provided for those who may require it) with performances being between three different spaces. Dinna panic though, you winna be standing in the same space for more than 15 consecutive minutes and Scott Ironside will be on hand to provide leg rubs on request.
Parking is on campus and access to Garthdee House will be through the main entrance to the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture where one of our helpful louns or quines will direct you.
Tickets £7 from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/298146
A lot has been happening behind the scenes over the last few months, the fruits of which should become apparent over the next wee whilee. This will include the ‘Dear Aberdeen…’ project where we asked local musicians to create pieces of music around letters that had been sent to or from Aberdeen, the first Fitlike Records sampler album, along with debut album releases from Death Let Her, Best Girl Athlete and The Great Bear. There is also going to be a pretty cool evening of Doric entertainment featuring Fitlike artists and friends on 5th December…details to follow very soon!
This wee beauty called Carve Every Word should have been released in October but a hold up at the pressing plant means we will all have to wait until late January. Those of you familiar with CS Buchan may be alarmed to find out that Best Girl Athlete is in fact his 15 year old daughter Katie. Young Buchan is fast developing into a brilliant songwriter and performer and is set to make a big impact. In the meantime you can find out the latest at the BGA website.
Want to hear the latest Fitlike releases and projects? Fire over to the Bandcamp page. As an incentive, there are a couple of free album downloads by those highly entertaining, psychedelic neeps, The Maternal Bum Bond Connexion. Approach with caution!
Fit like en? Delighted to be putting on a free show this Saturday at 2pm at the old 1-UP records shop on Belmont Street, Aberdeen. The kind folks in the culture team from Aberdeen City Council at ’17’ have given us the premises for the day and we are going to have a screening of a short independent film about socialism in Aberdeen, some solo piano pieces from Chemical Callum and a performance from Best Girl Athlete. There was going to be a fundraising, emotive exhibition in aid of the Auchnagatt Blind Orphans in 17 on Saturday afternoon but we are more important and the orphans have been sent packing. There will be quite a few events and releases coming up so please keep checking for updates.
