Delighted to see the amount of exciting work going on in our fair city of Aberdeen to support, promote and create culture. Fitlike Records was delighted to support artist Philip Thompson with his ‘Mannie’ installation by providing recorded Doric greetings and place names for the interactive statue.
Much has been spoken about The Great Bear since his triumphant recent shows at Aberdeen Lemon Tree, The Scottish Lighthouse Museum and St Machar’s Cathedral. We are in the process of recording what will be a stunning debut EP. I just might pee my pants with excitement as we haven’t even released the Death Let Her debut album yet, which is sounding beyond good!
A massive thank you to everyone who made it along to the historic St Machar’s Cathedral, Aberdeen to see some of Fitlike’s finest on what was a very special night! If you missed the evening, I would suggest reading the gig review by Mood of Collapse. Needless to say, The Great Bear, Philip Joseph Rae and Best Girl Athlete performed magnificantly and were wonderfully received by the 150 strong crowd. Amazing venue, amazing music, amazing night!
“From the first strums of Best Girl Athlete I started to feel my cheeks tingle, a feeling I usually get when seeing something special like Radiohead in Oxford in 2001, Sigur Ros at the Barrowlands and now Best Girl Athlete at St Machar’s Cathedral.”
Well, have you heard what’s on the hills? Apparently it’s Katie Buchan…the rascal. New Single Hills is a perfect example of Best Girl Athlete’s ability to create beautiful lo-fi indie pop which is infused with the song’s moody and atmospheric vocals, counterbalanced by the sweet tones of cello enveloping your ears. You can listen to the single via the ABoF SoundCloud page. You should definitely check out the video here as well which sees young Katie running round a giant hamster wheel…a real treat!
The Daily Record review of the Lemon Tree label showcase is one of the best I have read. It was very positive towards the evening AND it mentions hamsters a few times. Winner! Check it out here.
Huge thanks to all who came along the Lemon Tree on the 6th March for the label showcase evening. If you were there you would have seen brilliant performances from Death Let Her, The Great Bear, Steven Milne, Best Girl Athlete and Tryptamines. I had a great time and it was very gratifying to see so many new faces. Special thanks to George Mackie for taking some great images on the evening. Next up…Best Girl Athlete at St Machar’s Cathedral supported by The Great Bear and Philip Joseph Rae!
Those cheeky chimps at iiMusic in the Academy on Belmont Street, Aberdeen have agreed to take in any future Fitlike Records releases to sell in-store as well as online. Check out the wee page they have set up for us here!
